Local hero Toni Kraft beat Tanzania’s Abdallah Paziwapazi Saturday night at the Ballhausforum in Munich to win the WBC Youth Lightheavyweight Championship. Both men had their moments in a fight with some good back-and-forth action but also a lot of clinching. Kraft proved to be the technically more skilled fighter who tried to work behind his jab while Paziwapazi was going for the knockout throwing a lot of power punches and missing most of them.
Referee Juergen Langos had a tough night with lots of work and some difficult decisions to make. In the sixth round Kraft went down from what seemed to be a punch which caught him off balance but Langos ruled it as a slip. In round eight, Langos took a point from Kraft for pushing his opponent to the floor.
After ten rounds judges Daniel Van de Wiele (Belgium) and Ed Pearson (Canada) scored the bout 98-91, Maurizio Rinaudo (Germany) gave it 97-92, all in favor of Toni Kraft who landed more and cleaner shots.
It was Kraft’s tenth win in as many pro fights while Paziwapazi’s record dropped to 14-3.
