KSW 42 results: Tomasz Narkun snaps Mamed Khalidov’s 20-fight KSW unbeaten run

Tomasz Narkun snapped Mamed Khalidov’s 20-fight unbeaten run with KSW in the main event of KSW 42 on Saturday in Lodz, Poland.

The light heavyweight champion had it all to do in the third round after middleweight champion, Khalidov, dropped him twice in the first three minutes. Despite tiring greatly, 37-year-old Khalidov proved elusive in the second, leaving his younger opponent with a mountain to climb in the third.

Narkun came out hot in the third and landed a series of knees to the head of Khalidov from the clinch. Somehow, the Polish legend remained on his feet, but after taking the fight to the ground, he was submitted by a triangle choke.

“You win some, you lose some — that is the way of sport,” said Khalidov, speaking after the loss.

Ahead of the fight, Khalidov told MMA Fighting that he chose to fight the heavier champion at a catchweight of 203 pounds to challenge himself.

Scott Askham announced himself in the KSW middleweight division with a dramatic first-round finish of Polish legend Michal Materla. The UFC veteran ploughed his left leg into Materla’s liver twice in the early exchanges, forcing him to wince as he retreated from striking distance.

After chasing him down, Askham landed a head kick before Materla keeled over clutching his stomach. The Brit threw another head kick before referee Marc Goddard waved off the action.

Materla made headlines last year when he choose to continue fighting for KSW rather than accept an offer from the UFC.

Mateusz Gamrot remains undefeated after successfully defending his KSW lightweight title for a third time with a fourth-round submission over Grzegorz Szulakowski.

Szulakowski came out strong and cut the champion over his right eye before he was taken to the ground. “Gamer” slowly turned the screw with his grappling prowess over the next three rounds, despite the challenger’s efforts to steal his momentum.

After raining down a series of shots from side control in the second round, Gamrot locked up a straight armbar before transitioning to an Americana to claim the tap.

Ariane Lipski and Silvana Gomez Juarez made history as the first duo to ever complete a five-round fight in the history of KSW in their flyweight title bout.

Gomez Juarez provided the Brazilian champion with her toughest test to date, scoring a big knockdown with an overhand right at the end of the third round and bloodying Lipski’s nose after completing a takedown in the first. Despite a couple of scary moments, Lipski was able to dictate the pace of the fight and control the distance with her lead leg attacks and her sharp knees in the clinch.

With the unanimous decision win — her ninth consecutive victory and second KSW flyweight title defense — “The Violence Queen” improved to 11-3.
