Saturday night at  Coliseo Noel Cogollo in Sahagun, Colombia, WBA World female super bantamweight champion Liliana “La Tigresa” Palmera (27-11-3, 16 KOs), from Monteria, Colombia, successfully defended her title against Jessica “La Magnifica” Gonzalez (6-2-1, 1 KO), from Mexico City, Mexico, via split decision after 10 rounds of action.

The final scores were 95-94 twice (Hector Guillot and Carlos Diaz) and 94-97 (Ignacio Robles).

“Thank God. This is to honor him,” said “La Tigresa” after the fight. “Thanks to all who support me.”

It was Palmera’s first defense of her newly acquired WBA World title.

“She was a very difficult opponent,” Palmera told El Tiempo, “but I was prepared for this win. She (Jessica Gonzalez) was a very technical rival, very strong. I am a boxer who takes the initiative, but good things are not given. I was looking for the knockout but could not. I did not fight well. But I never felt tired. I never thought I would lose and in the end I won.”

The WBA supervisor for the bout was Jorge Humberto Klee.
