Leo Santa Cruz wants to settle the score with Carl Frampton before the year is out, citing an immediate rematch clause.

After suffering his first professional defeat at the hands of Carl Frampton, Leo Santa Cruz aims to get a rematch with Frampton within the next few months. Santa Cruz is adamant that they have an immediate rematch clause with Frampton, something Frampton’s side hasn’t admitted to, but Santa Cruz will reportedly exercise the clause straightaway. As Jose Santa Cruz tells ESPN Deportes:

“My son spoke with Mr. Al Haymon at the end of the function and said that there is a rematch, and if so, of course we want to direct rematch, but now could be in Los Angeles or Las Vegas about three more months to November,” Jose Santa Cruz told ESPN, father of three-time champion. “I tell you, I didn’t see my son lose. If I had seen him lose would have said it, so we want revenge,” he said.

“I think that if we get the rematch – and we are going to ask for it – I will tell my son he needs to train harder. I don’t like to make excuses, maybe they did beat us, but I am sure that Leo will win the title back.”

Santa Cruz lost to Frampton by majority decision on official cards of 117-111, 116-112, and 114-114. Of course I wouldn’t expect fans to complain about a sequel should it come to pass – the first fight was highly competitive and entertaining.
