FILIPINO challenger Genisis “Cobra” Libranza has a big chance of beating reigning International Boxing Organization (IBO) world flyweight champion Moruti “Babyface” Mthalane in their championship fight on April 28 at the Cape Town in Western Cape, South Africa.
“Two years na wala naka laban ang champion mao dako ang among advantage sa iyaha. (It’s been two years now that the champion has not fought that’s why we have a big advantage.),” said Libranza’s manager and chief trainer Raides “Nonoy” Neri of MP Davao Boxing Gym.
Mthalane (32-2-0, 21 KOs) last saw action on December 12, 2015 when he stopped Filipino challenger Renz Rosia in the 9th round by a technical knockout in his second title defense held at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
Mthalane won the vacant crown by a split decision against another Filipino Jether Oliva last March 15, 2014 in South Africa. He retained it in his first defense via a unanimous decision on Mexican Odilon Zalet last October 26, 2014.
Mthalane is also a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) world flyweight champion.
“Dugay na sad mi nag prepare sa laban (We also have long prepared for this fight)”, said Neri, one of the Filipino assistants of 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao.
Libranza, a native of Bayugan, Agusan del Sur has won his last three fights all by knockouts. He previously stopped Ronerex Dalut in the 3rd round last December 17 at the Robinson’s Place, General Santos City.
The 23-year old Libranza landed solid punches to damage the jaw of Dalut, who was rushed to the hospital after the fight. Dalut is now retired in boxing.
Libranza also pummelled to submission former Philippine Boxing Federation light flyweight champion Jetly Purisima in the 3rd round last year.
