BANGKOK (July 13) – Former world champion Rey “Hitman” Loreto made a good impression during an open workout for the media last Wednesday at the Sasakul Muay Thai Gym.
Aside from the press, also present and impressed by Loreto were promoter Piyarat Vatchirarattanawong of Petpiya Fight Promotions and former WBC world flyweight champion Chatchai Sasakul, who owns the gym.
“I think this will be a very exciting fight. Nobody knows who will really win since both fighters are good,” said Piyarat.
Loreto, a former International Boxing Organization (IBO) world light flyweight champion will be challenging undisputed World Boxing Association (WBA) world minimumweight title holder Thammanoon Niyomtrong, also known as Knockout CP Freshmart on July 15 at 4 p.m. at the Chonburi City Hall.
“We will only know on the day of the fight,” said Piyarat.
The official weigh-in is tomorrow July 14 at 2 p.m. also in Chonburi.
Trainer Joven Jorda is confident that Loreto will make the weight tomorrow. Loreto tipped the scales yesterday at 106 lbs. after working out for more than three hours at the newly-opened Highland Boxing Gym in Bangkok.
Loreto also jogged in the morning at the Thailand Sports Complex track oval.
“Loreto will make the weight on the official weigh-in. No problem,” said Jorda.
Meanwhile, Games and Amusements Board Chairman Abraham Mitra and his two commissioners Edward Trinidad and Fritz Gaston arrived today from Manila to give their full support to Loreto.
The GAB officials, who were met by international promoter-matchmaker Brico Santig at the airport are also planning to meet the officers of the Thailand Boxing Commission.
They were also present in Australia during the fight of 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn.
