Flyweights Louis Smolka and Ray Borg are set to battle at UFC 207: Nunes vs. Rousey.
A pair of flyweights looking to get back on the winning track are set to meet at UFC 207. Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review Journal reported on Monday that Louis Smolka will take on Ray Borg, in what will be the UFC’s final event of 2016. The night’s main card, which is on Friday, December 30th, airs live on pay-per-view.
Smolka (11-2) suffered one of the bigger upsets of 2016, losing by 1st round guillotine choke to Brandon Moreno at this month’s UFC Fight Night in Portland. Moreno was a short notice replacement for the injured Sergio Pettis, and it marked the Hawaiian’s first career stoppage loss. Prior to that, Smolka had won four straight, including a scintillating TKO performance vs. Ben Nguyen.
Borg (9-2) lost his UFC debut to Dustin Ortiz by split decision, but “The Taz-Mexican Devil” rattled off three straight victories, earning two $50,000 performance bonuses by submitting Shane Howell and Chris Kelades. After a unanimous decision win over Geane Herrera, Borg took on Justin Scoggins this past February, but was dominated and lost by decision. He was scheduled to face Ian McCall at UFC 203 before withdrawing during fight week with an illness.
UFC 207 is headlined by a women’s bantamweight title fight between champion Amanda Nunes and former champion Ronda Rousey. The co-main event will be the men’s bantamweight title, as reigning champ Dominick Cruz defends his title against Team Alpha Male’s Cody Garbrandt.
