Lucky thirteen for Cornejo or Crews-Dezurn

Maricela Cornejo today fights Franchon Crews-Dezurn for the World Boxing Council female super middleweight crown  at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas.

Cornejo lost her third professional fight to Tiffany Ward in 2013. She also lost in a tight decision split in New Zealand against Kali Reis on her first attempt for the world title in 2016. However, Cornejo has rebuilt her career and has accumulated 8 consecutive wins to reach  this opportunity.

established an outstanding career as an amateur fighter, being national champion 8 times. Her professional debut was against Claressa Shields, one of the best fighters currently, being defeated by decision. Since then she has won three consecutive matches.

Both fighters had no problems at the official weigh-in. Cornejo (12-2, 5 KOs) weighed 166.2 pounds. While Franchon (3-1, 1 KO) registered 167.6 pounds.
