As Luis Nery (25-0, 19 KOs) gets ready to rematch Shinsuke Yamanaka (27-1-2, 19 KOs) on March 1st in Japan, the WBC bantamweight champion is making a confident predictionthat his aggressive game plan will lead to a mid-rounds stoppage over the Japanese fighter.

“My fight with Shinsuke Yamanaka will be tough, but I will get the victory. I will go into this fight with an aggressive boxing style as I did in my first fight with Shinsuke Yamanaka. I’m fully focused and I predict the fight will end in the sixth round!”

Nery knocked out Yamanaka in their first meeting last summer in four rounds, putting an abrupt end to Yamanka’s run at setting a Japanese record of 13 consecutive world title defenses.

The result of that fight would end up tainted though (no pun intended), as Nery would test positive for banned substance Zilpaterol in two separate samples. It was undoubtedly a heart-breaking way for Yamanaka to have his near-record-setting streak snapped.

Nery’s team claimed the failed drug tests were a result of tainted beef he consumed during training, and the WBC more or less let it slide as they said they couldn’t determine that that wasn’t in fact the case.

The WBC did, however, order this rematch to take place. So Yamanaka, who briefly contemplated retirement, won’t be getting his streak back, but he does get a shot at winning his belt back.
