Luis Ortiz joins Friday’s PBC card

Fresh off of his exoneration by the WBC, Luis Ortiz is set to return right away, taking on Daniel Martz on Friday’s PBC card headlined by Ahmed Elbiali vs. Jean Pascal.

Ortiz (27-0, 23 KO) will be fighting for the first time since last December.

Martz (16-5-1, 13 KO) is big (6’7”, 260) and nothing else. He has a knockout loss to 11-15-1 Grover Young in 2015 and lasted a combined 4:45 against Joseph Parker and Bryant Jennings. He is here to lose and lose badly.

Honestly, the real intrigue is how Ortiz’s return factors into the WBC title picture. He’s ranked #3 behind Dillian Whyte and Dominic Breazeale and champ Deontay Wilder, whom Ortiz was set to fight before this whole debacle, is angling for a unification fight with Anthony Joshua.

Oh, and Ortiz is (ostensibly) almost 40.

So yeah, “King Kong” won’t be going an entire calendar year without fighting. Good for him, I suppose.
