After a rather surprising signing with Matchroom Boxing, Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz (25-0, 22 KOs) has been scheduled to take on Malik Scott (38-2-1, 13 KOs) for the WBA intercontinental title in Monte Carlo, November 12th. A win in this fight could set up Ortiz to vie for the regular WBA title with Tyson Fury expected to be relieved of the belt, reports ESPN. Ortiz currently holds the WBA interim title.
Ortiz, 37, is most recently coming off of a one-sided drubbing of Tony Thompson back in March and since went through a promotional dispute with Golden Boy, ultimately leading him to buy himself out of his contract.
Scott, 35, is also most recently coming off a win over Tony Thompson this time last year. He appeared to be on the cusp of challenging for a world title until current WBC champion Deontay Wilder stopped him in just one round back in 2014, in one of the more bizarre knockouts I’ve seen in recent time.
