Luke Campbell, Devin Haney reach deal for July 27th

According to Eddie Hearn, WBC #1 lightweight Luke Campbell and #3 Devin Haney have reached a deal to fight on July 27th for Mikey Garcia’s former title, pending WBC approval.

The complicating factor here is #2 Zaur Abdullaev, who reportedly intends to face Campbell in his next fight. The issue for him is Ramadan, which runs from May 6th to June 3rd and would complicate his camp. It’s not out of the question, though; UFC welterweight Belal Muhammad has trained, fought, and won while fasting, but that may be a tall ask for a world title shot.

Campbell (20-2, 16 KO) has been on the cusp of a title for what feels like forever. He was slightly derailed by a split decision loss to Yvan Mendy in 2015, but fought his way back into contention and gave champion Jorge Linares everything he could handle in another split decision defeat. He’s since won three straight, including a decisive victory over Mendy in their rematch, and was Garcia’s mandatory challenger.

The 20-year-old Haney (21-0, 13 KO) has proven himself a genuine blue-chip prospect in recent times, dominating the likes of Mason Menard, Juan Carlos Burgos, and undefeated Xolisani Ndongeni, He signed with Matchroom Boxing late last month, paving the way for this matchup.
