British lightweight Luke Campbell (18-2, 15 KOs) is relocating his camp from Miami to London ashe hires Shane McGuigan as his new lead trainer. Campbell had previously been working with Jorge Rubio but following his loss to Jorge Linares he wanted to make some changes — even in spite of a stoppage win over Troy James this past May.
“I’m incredibly excited to be teaming up with Shane and can’t wait for the future working together.
”I’ve always heard good things about him within boxing but, having trained under him for a few weeks now, I can vouch for just how good he is.”
McGuigan is perhaps best known for his work with super middleweight titleholder George Groves and says that Campbell is now in a situation where he can thrive and take his career to the next level.
“With Luke now being in a winning environment, full of world-class fighters, coupled with a different approach towards boxing training and strength sessions at the McGuigan Gym, he can reach his full potential and become an elite-level fighter.”
Campbell is currently expected to have a rematch with Yvan Mendy before the year is out, with Mendy having previously taken a split decision over Campbell in late 2015.
