Venezuelan Gabriel Maestre and Canadian Cody Crowley will fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim Welterweight title on August 7th as the main fight of the Premier Boxing Champions event in Minnesota, Minneapolis.

Maestre is 34 years old and a two-time Olympic Diploma winner (London 2012 and Rio 2016) who has risen quickly in professional boxing since making his debut in 2019. In June of that year he knocked out then 20-win undefeated Colombian Jeovanis Barraza; then he dispatched former world champion Diego Cháves by knockout in December 2019; and repeated the same history against Mexico’s Daniel Vega at the end of 2020.

The native of Anzoátegui state -Venezuela- will make his debut in the United States and his intention is to maintain his winning streak to climb towards the big fights in the near future. Maestre is a boxer with good technique and plenty of resources who has a good punch that has been felt especially in the professional field.

He will face Crowley, who at 28 years old knows he has a golden opportunity and his only goal is to win the interim belt to show what he is capable of. He is a southpaw and a quite technical fighter who has a good repertoire of punches and knows how to walk the ring very well.

The showdown promises to be a great clash of styles and another positive consequence of the union between professional and amateur boxing. Crowley comes in with 19 wins, no losses, and 10 KOs, while Maestre has knocked out all three opponents he has faced in his professional boxing career.
