REIGNING Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) super featherweight champion Carlo “The Ferocious” Magali of the Philippines will be defending his title on April 29 against Korean challenger Yoon Sung Kim in Yesan City, Korea.
This was confirmed by Magali’s trainer Ninolito Jalnaiz of the Highland Boxing Gym in La Trinidad, Benguet.
“Hindi rin nasayang ang pag training ni Magali,” said Jalnaiz.
Magali, however, went back home to his family in Talibon, Bohol this week after he was replaced by South African Maxwell Awuku as the challenger of reigning WBC World Super Featherweight champion Miguel “El Alacran” Berchelt of Mexico on Feb. 10 in Mexico.
Magali was not allowed by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) of the Philippines through the recommendation of its Medical and Boxing Divisions due to the lack of the required 45 days rest period of a boxer.
Magali previously won the regular OPBF title via a 10th round technical knockout against Japanese Masatoshi Kotani last January 13 at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
Magali will be back in La Trinidad in the last week of February to resume his training.
The first title defense of Magali will be promoted by Korean promoter Jun Sang Lee.
Yoon Sung Kim, however, will still face compatriot Tae Wong Jung (3W-0L) on February 11 at the Onnam Primary School in Ulsan, Korea.
The 20-year old Kim previously previously scored a 4th round knockout win against Thailand’s Phum Kunmat (24W-21L-2D) in Songjeong Beach, Busan last Nov. 5.
Kim is still unbeaten with 10 wins and 8 knockouts and one draw.
