Puerto Rican hot prospect Yomar ‘The Magic’ Alamo (13-0, 10KO’s)  contests the World Boxing Council  Youth super-lightweight belt,  against Hungarian Zsigmond Vass (13-5, 2KO’s) as part of an event presented by Tiger Promotions on Saturday, August 19th at the Samuel ‘Sammy’ Rodríguez Coliseum in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico.

Alamo has fashioned a perfect record of 13 wins with 10 knockouts. In his most recent triumph he defeated Juan Carlos Contreras in his own home.

“I am very happy with the development of my career. I am disciplined and I always like to prepare well for all challenges. It motivates me to contest for the WBC Youth World Title because it is the first step to fulfill my dream of being an absolute world champion,”  stressed Yomar.   Zsigmond comes from defeating his compatriot David Kis in a bout in Budapest in April.

This will be a historic fight as it will be the first time that a World Youth Championship of the World Boxing Council is contested in Puerto Rico.

The goal of the World Boxing Council in developing the World Youth Championship is to open opportunities for young prospects so they can be recognized as champions in their  respective divisions, bridging  the gap and subsequent leap from the amateur scene, to a professional world championship. Sometimes the careers of new boxers are at stake as they usually get to face rivals with more age and experience, being defeated and often ruining their promising careers; So this title is a step before that stage.

The WBC Youth World Championship, whose age limit is  23 years and 11 months, has yielded  great results since its inception in 1999. Here is a list of Youth world champions who managed to become world champions :

Samuel Peter, Krzysztof Wlodarczyk, Chad Dawson, Julio César Chávez Jr., Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Kermit Cintron, Timothy Bradley, Danny Garcia, Juan Díaz, Mike Anchondo, Jose Pedraza, Humberto Soto, Rodolfo López, Daniel Ponce De León, Tomoki Kameda, Leo Santa Cruz, Diego Morales, Ivan Hernandez, Dimitri Kirilov, Brian Viloria, Jorge Arce, Moisés Fuentes, Roberto Leyva, Oleydong Sithsamerchai and Wanheng Menayothin.

Whoever wins the battle between Alamo and Vass, holding  aloft  the World Youth Championship belt,  will be one significant step closer of becoming an absolute  world champion.
