HARDPUNCHING Zulpikar Maimaitiali of China captured the vacant WBO Oriental super middleweight title by stopping Thomas Mashali of Tanzania by a technical knockout in 53 seconds of the 4th round on July 9 at the Multi-Functional Hall, Water Cube in Beijing.
Maimaitiali first downed Mashali in the third round. And in the fourth round, Maimaitiali battered Mashali with combinations forcing referee Danrex Tapdasan from the Philippines to stop the fight.
WBO VP for Asia-Pacific Leon Panoncillo then awarded Maimaitali a WBO Oriental belt.
The 22-year old Maimaitiali remained unbeaten with seven wins and five knockouts against one draw while Mashali, 25, dropped to 18-5-1-9KOs.
Mashali is also a Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) World super middleweight title-holder. – LITO DELOS REYES
