Roca, Joya, Kika and Bronca- the four semi finalists for The World Boxing Council Diamond Flyweight belt, were at hand for the weekly press conference in Mexico City, all ready to strike a decisive blow for the glittering prize.
The first match will ignite this Saturday in Metepec, when challenger Esmeralda “La Joya” Moreno takes on Ibeth “Roca” Zamora for the fourth time, trying to even the score. It’s Roca’s ninth title defence. Both facially looking a bit drawn.
Esmeralda said she’s aiming for her second championship, and this is her third opportunity. She’s well prepared and expecting an outright war, like on the other three occasions. She said the difference in their last fight was minimal. But this time she must be that much better.
Ibeth said diamonds are forever and a real prospect, so this upcoming fight is an important progression towards who is ultimately the best. But the result will be dictated by power and strength, rather than stylistics.
The Yessica “Kika” Chavez defence of her WBC flyweight belt against Ana “La” Bronca Arrazola, is a little further down the road in Zapopan, Jalisco, on May 13th.
Ana said: “Kika and I previously fought a draw some years ago. So now it’s time for the reckoning. I must win! It’s an opportunity from the WBC and I’m going to take it.”
Kika said that all four champions who are also friends are at the podium. She explained that fighting southpaw Ana has its stance complications, but winning and then triumphing in the grand final will be the highlight and career dream fulfilled.
