DAVAO CITY – The fight between undefeated Jayson “Smasher” Mama of Gen. Santos City and International Boxing Federation World flyweight champion Moruti “Babyface” Mthalane of South Africa was canceled by the Boxing South Africa (BSA) against the Tono Promotions boxing tournament set on Dec. 20 at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban.

Mama (15W-0L, 8KOs) and his trainer Ronerex Dalut have already arrived yesterday in South Africa when BSC announced the sad news on Tono Promotions.

In a statement issued by CEO Cindy Nkomo of BSA last Dec. 16: “BSA has done everything possible to save this tournament however on Friday, 11 December 2020 it became evident to the federation that the Promoter has failed to meet basic requirements to enable BSA to sanction and give credibility to the event.”

“The failure by the Promoter to meet basic tournament requirements has subsequently left BSA with no option but to cancel the tournament however affording the Promoter the opportunity to communicate the cancellation and further manage the consequences which regrettably, the Promoter has failed to equally do so.”

Mthalane (39W-2L-0D, 26KOs) had successfully made his third title defense with a TKO over Akira Yaegashi of Japan in the 9th round last Dec. 23, 2019, at Arena in Yokohama, Japan.
