DAVAO CITY — Former world title-contender Noldi Manakane of Indonesia had arrived today here for his championship fight against Filipino boxer Glenn “The Rock” Porras for the vacant WBC Asia Boxing Council super bantamweight title on Nov. 25 at 6 p.m. at the University of Mindanao Gym in Tagum City.
Manakane arrived together with his second Hendry Purnomo at around 1 p.m. at the Davao International Airport. They were fetched by boxing promoter Engr. Jilson Basang of the MB Northstar Promotions.
“I’m tired from my trip. But I’m ready to fight this Saturday,” said Manakane, who is a veteran of 56 fights with 32 wins and 18 knockouts.
He is a former PABA bantamweight , Indonesia Boxing Association (IBA) featherweight, super bantamweight and super flyweight champion.
Manakane, a former world title contender, was able to challenge WBA World bantamweight champion Koki Kameda of Japan on April 4, 2012 in Yokohama. Manakane, however, lost by a unanimous decision.
He also fought but lost for the WBC Asia Pacific super flyweight title via a 6th round knockout against Thailand’s Suriya Tatakhun in Nonthaburi in 2014.
The 1o-round title fight is one of the four championships slated in “The Redemption” boxing promotion of MB Northstar Boxing Promotions and the RATIM Sports Promotion.
It is held in coordination with the Tagum Cirque of Shooters Inc. and Maco Golden Valley Eagles Club. (LITO DELOS REYES)
