Pacquiao split from Top Rank earlier this year
Manny Pacquiao and Top Rank have been at odds for some time, but the animosity appears to have boiled over, as “Pac-Man” is claiming that he is still owed money from his win over Lucas Matthysse in July.
Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 KO) split from the promotion in March after rejecting an offer to face Mike Alvarado, but Bob Arum and co. handled the U.S. broadcast of the Matthysse fight as part of its partnership with ESPN. Judging by Pacquiao’s post, they’ve been a bit delinquent.
Regardless of his decline in the ring, I’d imagine “The Fighting Senator” is a force to be reckoned with in the courtroom with his power and influence. Then again, this isn’t Arum’s first rodeo. To avoid excess legal fees, though, I propose trial by combat, with Terence Crawford serving as Top Rank’s champion.
This proposal does, however, have the potential of creating an infinite loop should Pacquiao not receive payment for fighting “Bud.” That’s a risk I’m willing to take.
