Manny Pacquiao’s next fight appears to be all set. The Filipino legend’s MP Promotions has sent out a press release announcing that “Pac-Man” will face Argentine knockout artist Lucas Matthysse in Kuala Lumpur on June 24th.
Mav Gonzalez of GMA News has more on the announcement here.
This is a damn sight better than Pacquiao-Alvarado. While Matthysse (39-4, 26 KO) is past his best, he’s still a truly monstrous puncher, and he won’t have to worry about being undersized against Pacquiao (59-7-2, 38 KO). Matthysse also holds the regular version of Keith Thurman’s WBA title, meaning we’ll get twelve rounds without the need for conjuring a new belt out of the aether.
Matthysse’s last fight was absolutely a stinker, but Pacquiao is always happy to engage and “The Machine” will actually have a reach advantage this time. However the fight goes, it ought to be plenty entertaining.
