MATTHYSSE JR. TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19; CARD STILL GOES ON IN BRAZIL

Argentina boxer Walter Matthysse Jr. and his trainer/uncle Mario Narváes have tested positive for Coronavirus Covid-19 today, for which the fighter had to be withdrawn from the boxing card that will still take place this Saturday, October 24, at the Coliseu Boxing Center in San Pablo, Brazil, live on channel TyC Sports.

Matthysse Jr, whose parents and uncles have been world-class fighters, was going to make his pro debut on that evening against undefeated Brazilian Fernando Messias (2-0, 1 KO).

Now he will have to carry out an obligatory 2-week quarantine and, if all is well, he will be able to fight in the next show in São Paulo, which is scheduled for November 27.

Due to this situation, now the show’s main event will be the 10-round clash between Brazilian Fernando Pinto and Buenos Aires fighter Juan Leal for the WBO welterweight Latino title.

URUGUAYANS VS BRAZILIANS IN SUPPORTING BOUTS

Three hot Uruguayan prospects José Acevedo, Víctor Rodríguez and Jairo Albiso will see action in São Paulo’s boxing evening, which is the 1st edition of the new boxing series “KO AL COVID 19.”

Acevedo (6-0, 4 KO’s) will face Brazilian Pedro Guilherme Dos Santos (3-2-2) in 6 rounds action.

Albiso (3-0, 3 KO’s) will do it against local Ykaro David Silva Santos (2-0, 1 KO) at a distance of 4 laps.

And Rodríguez (2-0), will cross gloves against São Paulo’s Kenes Carneiro Mesquita (3-3) in a 4-chapter battle.

May the Best Men Win.!!
