MAURICIO SULAIMÁN, CANDIDATE TO MÉXICO’S 2020 NATIONAL SPORTS AWARD

Sulaimán has been nominated for the prestigious national award for the Promotion and Protection of athletes in the Practice of the Sport of Boxing

The president of the World Boxing Council (WBC) Mauricio Sulaimán was nominated as a candidate for the 2020 National Sports Award in field G, for the Promotion or Protection of the Practice of Sports.

The proposal was made by the Mexican Olympic Committee and the Olympic Medalists civil associations, chaired by Dr. Daniel Aceves Villagrán, who highlighted that Sulaimán was re-elected on August 20 as head of the main world boxing body for a second four-year term.

Sulaimán has taken actions such as the award ceremony “Heroes for Mexico”, in order to recognize with a replica of the WBC Mazahua belt, the anonymous heroes who day by day fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, risking their lives and those of their families to save their neighbors.

He also expressed solidarity with the boxing union, especially with elderly fighters who do not have economic protection by providing them with pantries during the pandemic.

Aceves Villagrán stressed that Sulaimán has sought and promoted the protection of the health of the national and international boxing and sports community, with perseverance, and has also acted against discrimination and abuse of power.

It has also implemented medical and scientific programs for the protection of boxers, establishing actions against doping, rules, protection measures and medical examinations among many others.

In the same way, he has provided social and economic support to former all-time champions of all backgrounds.

The CMB has always been characterized by the defense of human rights and a great vocation to serve those who need it most; currently it has generated 598 world champions in the 17 recognized divisions, several of them created by the WBC itself.

To date, he has scheduled more than 2,200 world championship fights over more than 40 years around the world on virtually five continents.

Since 2014 with the arrival of Mauricio, the WBC has evolved, grown and transformed the way this noble sport is viewed; For the body, the most important thing is safety, health and respect for the boxer who gets into the ring with a thirst to win, to please his audience regardless of the risk he may take, he said.

The WBC likewise decreased the rounds from 15 to 12; the pre-weighings are 30 and 7 days before the official, which is 24 hours before the fights and three judges who keep the score.
