Max Holloway provides a cautiously optimistic health update: ‘Starting to feel better’

UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway hasn’t had a good month. The Hawaiian fighter was forced out of his UFC 226 title defense against Brian Ortega due to a mysterious medical condition, and it seems that he’s still not sure what happened. At the time, it was initially diagnosed as concussion-like symptoms. Then UFC president Dana White said it may have had something to do with water loading. But it looks like there are still no concrete answers as of yet.

Holloway is still trying to figure it out, with the help of the UFC and doctors. He took to Twitter today to give an update on his condition, which offered some cautious optimism:

Holloway (19-3, 15-3 UFC) has been scheduled to fight three times in 2018, but has had to pull out of all three bouts. A February bout with Frankie Edgar was scrapped due to a leg injury, and he was brought in as an ultra-late replacement to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title at UFC 223, but was pulled from the bout by the commission because of a brutal weigh cut.

Obviously there is no timetable for Holloway’s return at this point, but hopefully it’s not anything too serious.
