May-Mac falls short of May-Pac records

Mayweather-McGregor did big numbers, but didn’t top Mayweather-Pacquiao.

Reports are starting to trickle in that despite rumors of Mayweather-McGregor doing 6.5 million buys on pay-per-view, the event actually fell short of the record 4.6 million buys for Mayweather-Pacquiao. WBN is reporting that Mayweather-McGregor did roughly 200,000 less buys that May-Pac, while also falling short of May-Pac’s live gate records by about $16.5M.

So this means the fight wasn’t the biggest blockbuster of all time as it was being marketed as, but keeping things in perspective, it still did huge numbers that will surely net nine-figure paydays for both sides. And when you take into account this was a boxing match between the best boxer of a generation against a man who isn’t even a boxer, that’s saying something.

In the end Floyd Mayweather is expected to take home roughly $300M as he walks off into the sunset while McGregor is expected to return to the UFC as a much wealthier man than he was just a couple of months ago.
