Melissa “Shark” Hernández will face the super lightweight champion of the World Boxing Council, Chantelle Cameron, on May 29 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, where she will stake her future in boxing.

At 41 years old and with notable inactivity, the Puerto Rican Melissa Hernández faces the most difficult fight of her career against the British world champion Chantelle Cameron.

Hernandez (23-7, 7 KOs), a Miami Beach resident, has a brilliant boxing career that has seen her win six world crowns since she first stepped into the ring in 2005.

In 2016 she decided to hang up the gloves, but she never stopped training as she has always stated that boxing is her greatest passion. Her work as her instructor at the Continuum Sporting Club in Miami Beach always kept her in excellent physical condition.

In April 2019, Hernández returned to the ring with a notable victory over Selina Barrios and the possibility of resuming her career was on.

The big opportunity “Shark” was waiting for came when promoter Matchroom offered to challenge the WBC champion and she immediately accepted.

“My parents are professionals and so are my three brothers, so I`ve focused everything into boxing and live in a rented apartment. My mother tells me to quit boxing, go back to college and buy an apartment.

“They made me a very good financial offer to face Cameron and that convinced me. I’m not just fighting for money, though. I will fight for glory and, of course, to win the WBC Green and Gold title and to defend the right to equal pay to female boxers.”

Chantelle Cameron will make her first defense of the World Boxing Council world crown against Puerto Rican Hernández.
