Michael McDonald gives update on latest hand injury

Michael McDonald may not need surgery after all.

Michael McDonald’s latest injury isn’t as bad as he initially thought.

“Mayday” picked up a spectacular 58-second knockout win over former two-time bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas last Friday at Bellator 202, but the victory was almost pyrrhic as McDonald said in his post-fight interview that he’d broken his left hand. This comes on the heels of his Bellator debut last December in which his right hand was broken.

The mounting injuries had McDonald questioning how much longer he can continue fighting.

On Tuesday, McDonald took to social media to give an update on his hand, revealing that he will not need surgery this time around after undergoing several surgeries on his right hand over the last few years.

McDonald wrote that the plan for his hand is “to let it heal for six weeks and then assess it afterward.” He notes that surgery is still a possibility.

A one-time UFC title challenger, the 27-year-old McDonald (19-4) has won both of his Bellator fights since changing promotions last year.

The bout with Dantas proved costly to both fighters as “Dudu” fractured his leg after being knocked down by a McDonald punch and had to undergo surgery.
