Michael Zerafa: I’m going to make people eat their words against Kell Brook

The underdog says he’s coming to Sheffield with nothing to lose.

Australia’s Michael Zerafa has had shots outside of his home country before, and he’s come up well short. But he says on Saturday when he travels to Sheffield, England to face former titleholder Kell Brook, he’s going to make people eat their words against an opponent he feels is overlooking him.

From Sky:

“I’ve got two losses on my record but that was years ago. I was a kid back then and very inexperienced. Now I’m a more complete fighter, more power, more speed and more boxing IQ. I respect Kell Brook, he’s a great fighter and he’s been at a higher level than me for longer, but that’s exactly why he’s looking past me. I’m going to make a lot of people eat their words.”

Zerafa (25-2, 14 KO) is the big underdog for a very good reason. In 2014, he went to Russia and lost a wide decision to Arif Magomedov. In 2015, he came to the United States and was violently knocked out by Peter Quillin. Otherwise, he’s done well at home against limited opposition.

These are the sort of words Zerafa is hoping to make people eat, of course, and he’s right when he also says he has “nothing to lose.” He’s here as a tune-up for Brook (37-2, 26 KO), who was hoping to finally land that big 2019 fight with Amir Khan. But since it looks like Khan might be lured into a fight with Terence Crawford instead, Brook better come out to put on a show.
