A UFC debut in front of home support in Gdansk wasn’t enough to convince Polish middleweight Michal Materla to sign on the dotted line with the promotion.

Instead, the former KSW middleweight champion has pledged his future to the Polish organization, with his next outing slated for Oct. 22 in Dublin at KSW 40 — the day after the UFC’s event in Gdansk.

In a statement released to MMA Fighting, Materla claimed that it was in his long-term interest to stay with KSW, suggesting that there were no guarantees outside of the Gdansk event with the UFC.

“I rejected the UFC’s offer to fight in Gdansk because it just didn’t make sense for me long-term,” the statement read.

“It was a great offer but what happens to me after this event? KSW came in with something which made financial sense for me to stay. They have always looked after me and I am happy to stay with them.”

Materla referenced KSW 39: ‘Colosseum’ — the event that reportedly broke the UFC’s attendance record with 58,000 spectators at the Polish national stadium in May — as another reason why he was happy to commit his future to the promotion.

“Look at their last event… 58,000 people in Warsaw, this just shows how big they are! I’m happy to commit to them and help them in their continued growth.

“I am happy to finally get back to what I do best, and that is fight. It has been almost a year since I defeated Palhares and I just want to get back in there and on October 22nd at KSW 40 in Dublin I get to do that. I am a very happy and motivated Michal Materla!”

The 33-year-old Materla holds a professional record of 24-5 and has taken notable wins overRousimar Palhares and Kendall Grove.

When asked for comment by MMA Fighting, a UFC representative stated that the organization does not disclose any details on fighter legal contracts.
