Michel Prazeres moves up to welterweight, meets Zak Cummings at UFC Chile

Michel Prazeres will not be competing at lightweight for his next UFC bout.

The Brazilian has been booked to fight Zak Cummings in a welterweight contest at UFC Chile. The event is set to take place on May 19 at the Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile. The news was announced by the promotion on Monday.

Prazeres originally started his MMA career at 170 pounds, but switched to the lightweight division following a decision loss to Paulo Thiago in UFC debut in 2013. The 36-year-old has has had an issue making the 155-pound limit in the last couple of years, missing weight three times in his last four bouts. Prazeres is currently on a six-fight win streak. His last loss was back in 2015 where he was outpointed by Kevin Lee.

Welcoming Prazeres back to welterweight is Cummings. The veteran fighter last fought in April of 2017 where he picked up a submission win over Nathan Coy. Cummings was scheduled to fight earlier this year against Thiago Alves, but was forced to withdraw from the bout due to injury. Cummings is 21-5 in his professional MMA career.
