Michel Soro at The Summit in Big Bear With Abel Sanchez

Currently the likes of IBF cruiserweight champion Murat Gassiev and lightweight contender Denis Shafikov are at the Summit in Big Bear working with trainer Abel Sanchez.
Joining them is junior middleweight, Michel Soro, who recently became a part of Sanchez’s stable of boxers.
“That’s my newest one, I’ve had one fight with him already. A third round knockout in Rhone, France about three weeks ago. He fought a young man named (Javier) Maciel,” said the noted trainer, best known for his work with IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.
“He’s now fighting in July, the eliminator for the WBA title for the 154-pound championship.”
It looks like Soro (30-1-1, 20 KO’s) will be paired with Brian Castano.
Sanchez says of his newest client – “He came into camp before about two-and-a-half years ago with his coach and his manager and I felt that he worked hard, has a lot of talent, just that he was being babied – is the word for it – but now he’s in our system and working hard. Hopefully we can develop his skills even more and have another champion coming out of the gym.”
One fighter who hasn’t been back at the Summit is heavyweight Andy Ruiz, who suffered his first career when he lost a close decision for the vacant WBO title back in December against Joseph Parker.
So just where is he?
‘I don’t know, I don’t know,” said Sanchez, laughing. “It’s a shame because he did well in the Parker fight, much better than anyone expected him to do and he’s let that momentum go. And that’s sad,” said Sanchez, who said he spoke to Ruiz’s father a few weeks ago.
“Hopefully, he has the urge to come back to the gym and get some work done. He’s a viable heavyweight.”
