Miguel Berchelt looking for new opponent after Mijares withdrawal

Cristian Mijares is out, so Miguel Berchelt is searching for a new opponent.

Miguel Berchelt is still slated to fight and defend his WBC super featherweight title on February 10 in Cancun, Mexico, but it won’t be against Cristian Mijares, who was the originally announced opponent and has withdrawn from the fight due to contract issues.

Berchelt (32-1, 28 KO) now looks to find a new opponent within a month of the fight date, meaning something even less than the 36-year-old Mijares should be expected for what was already something of a stay-busy fight for the champion, at least on paper.

“Right now I do not know who they will put in front of me, but I know that the preparation I did with [trainer] Alfredo Caballero will help me to beat anyone.”

Berchelt, 26, also says that he’d be interested in a unification fight with Vasyl Lomachenko after this defense is past, which is the biggest fight there is at 130 pounds right now.
