The newly crowned World Boxing Council super featherweight champion, Miguel Berchelt, returned home to Merida, Yucatan, to a rapturous and joyous greeting from a huge crowd at the City`s  International Airport,  after spectacularly winning the coveted crown.
Snapped, cheered  and hugged by dozens of photographers, reporters, cameramen, plus a multitude of adoring fans,  Berchelt  was finally back home,  following months of hard slog and rugged training in Hermosillo, Sonora, preparing for the fight of his life, which brought him the incredible blood, sweat and tears accolade of the famed  WBC green and gold belt.
“I am so very happy to arrive home in Merida, where I came in search of a dream that I have now achieved,” said the World Boxing Council champion, while proudly holding the green and gold belt, which depicts the images  of our dear WBC lifetime President Jose Sulaiman,  the King of Boxing King, Muhammad Ali, and the greatest ever champions of that weight category in WBC history, Ghanaian Azumah Nelson and Nicaraguan Alexis Argüello.

“Alacran”, accompanied by his agent and president of Max Boxing company, Mario Abraham Xacur, were received by the Governor of Yucatan, Rolando Zapata Bello, in his office at the Government Palace.

The Governor highlighted how the young boxer, who debuted in the ring at age 19 in Merida, has returned 6 years later,  with the WBC world championship, proudly opening a new golden chapter of success in the pages of Yucatan`s  pugilism.

Governor Zapata Bello stressed that  these examples of perseverance, leading to  success,  foster social harmony, inspire new generations and develop sportsmanship within a framework of national unity.

The champion presented a replica of the WBC championship belt to the Governor,  gratefully recognizing  his support and his interest in developing sports amongst  youth.

The new super featherweight champion, originally from Cancún, Quintana Roo, learned his boxing in the Yucatan.  He is considered by the Governor  and by fans, as the eighth champion in the region. So  his name is now glitters alongside  the  boxing legends of Miguel Canto Solís, Gustavo “Guty” Espadas Cruz, Juan Herrera, Lupe Madera, Freddy “Chato” Castillo, Gustavo “Guty”  Espadas Espinosa and Gilberto Keb Baas.
