A public feud is brewing between Donald Cerrone and the Jackson Wink MMA gym, and Mike Perry is standing by his new team.
Cerrone said earlier this week that his relationship with the New Mexico gym that he’s called home for years has become fractured due to what he perceives to be a mishandling of the business by coach Mike Winkeljohn. According to Cerrone, Winkeljohn lowered the quality of the training there by allowing anyone, regardless of experience, to come in and work with the pros so long as they paid their membership fee, and also of kicking Cerrone out of the gym when it was announced that he would be fighting Perry at UFC Denver on Nov. 10.
Cerrone alleges that Winklejohn told him he wouldn’t be welcome to set up his camp at Jackson Wink for the Perry bout, but Winkeljohn responded by saying that it was Cerrone establishing his own gym, the BMF Ranch, that played a major part in the deterioration of their relationship.
Now Perry, who began training with the Jackson Wink team earlier this year ahead of his most recent fight against Paul Felder, has weighed in. Initially tweeting about having YouTube celebrity Logan Paul come to the gym to train, Perry alluded to Cerrone’s accusation that they were literally bringing “bums” off the street by taking pride in the insult.
I respect @LoganPaul because unlike all you #Tweeters he got his ass in the ring and fought. He goes to the gym and works. Doesn’t just talk shit. You damn right #Anybody #Anytime #Anyplace walk in off the street and we’re so good we can show anyone the light
#JesusLikedBums
He then addressed Cerrone directly, claiming Cerrone doesn’t know what it’s like to have money problems and mentioning that he was glad “Cowboy” did not die in a recent cave diving incident. Perry then promised to give Cerrone a “Spartan beautiful death”.
Plus idk why @Cowboycerrone is acting like we ain’t in this shit about the money. He’s oblivious because he always had money. I’m a broke hungry fuckin lion and I’m glad you didn’t die in the scuba dive so I can kill you in the #Octagon ima give you that Spartan #BeautifulDeath
Perry also recorded a video for Cerrone, shouting “I’m coming for you! (growl) I’m coming for you in front of the whole world, motherf**ker! You earned it. You earned it.”
Cerrone fights Perry in the welterweight co-main event of UFC Fight Night 139 at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
