“This is a good fight for my career,” Mikey Garcia told Fightnews.com®. “This fight is huge and important. With a win this can launch my career to another level. We have been training for several weeks and have been doing sparring sessions just to be active but soon we will begin the intense sparring so we are happy how things are going.”

“We’re getting ready for the best Adrien Broner possible,” Trainer Robert Garcia told Fightnews.com®. “Mikey will come into this fight one-hundred percent ready.”

The “Problem” Broner has had his issues outside the ring as he is coming off a questionable decision win over Adrian Granados this past February. There is also speculation that Broner going into that fight was dealing with hand issues.

“Broner is a very good fighter,” stated Mikey. “He has great skills, speed, power, counter punch, footwork he has it all. Depending on which Adrien Broner shows up. Let’s see what kind of fight we have,” Garcia said. “I heard he was hurt in his last fight, that his hand was hurting but Granados is a tough guy. Granados came to win and fight, he fought his heart out and definitely made it hard for Adrien.”

“Broner is a great fighter and I know what skills he brings. This is do or die for him, so he’s taking it seriously. I think we’re going to see a great Adrien Broner. When Mikey beats him, I want Mikey to get the credit for beating a great fighter,” Robert Garcia added.

Garcia scored a devastating knockout over previously undefeated Dejan Zlaticanin in opening the year, winning the WBC lightweight title in his second fight back since his long 2 year layoff.

“I was happy. My opponent had never been knocked down and he was an undefeated world champion. It was my happiest time because what we had been through and we came back.”

Mikey coming into this fight is a 5 to 1 betting favorite. A fact that Broner was not too pleased about at Tuesday’s press conference in LA. “5/1, Shit!” Broner said. “After I am done fucking him up we still cool but I am coming to fuck him up.”

When Garcia was asked about Broner’s comments and behavior, Mikey replied, “Broner always talks, sings, and dances into the ring but it don’t do or mean anything inside that ring. It just makes good show and promotion.”

For this fight Garcia will be moving up to super lightweight limit of 140 pounds. For the time being since Broner did not comply and make weight going into his last fight with Granados. The question now will be does Garcia will still have the same punching power going into his fourth weight class after he won titles and walked over everyone at 126, 130, and 135.

“I feel if I land a good punch, I will hurt him,” Garcia said.

Garcia vs. Broner will be a scheduled 12 round super lightweight bout as it will headline the Showtime Championship Boxing telecast.

“It’s going to be a fight fans will enjoy. You will see me perform at another level and I hope Adrien is at his fullest because that will allow me to bring my A-game,” Garcia said.
