The biggest obstacle in making a terrific lightweight title fight between Jorge Linares and Mikey Garcia will be addressed today, as Golden Boy Promotions will meet with Garcia, an Al Haymon/PBC fighter, about the potential matchup.
[Eric] Gomez said that Golden Boy would no longer require Garcia to sign with the company to get a fight with one of its top fighters, even though it would very much like to promote Garcia, one of the top fighters in the world.
… “I want to make the fight. Mikey knows that,” Gomez told ESPN. “No options, no futures. Let’s just make the fight.”
This is good news on the surface, but we’ll see. The fight between Linares (43-3, 27 KO) and Garcia (37-0, 30 KO) is one everyone wants to see, with Garcia coming off of a big win at 140 over Adrien Broner, and Linares a tough one against Luke Campbell.
