THE boxing promoters and managers of Mindanao are now excited to join the 3rd GAB Philippine Boxing Convention slated on May 11 to 13 in Davao City.
Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Chairman Abraham Kahlil “Baham” Mitra formally announced it today (March 21) during a dialogue with the stakeholders held at the Pia’s Café along Quimpo Boulevard in Davao City.
“Registration is free of charge,” said Mitra, who was joined by Commissioners Fritz Gaston and Eduard Trinidad.
The convention opens at the Marco Polo Hotel and will focus on topics such as “Legal Updates on the Rules and Regulations”, “Governing Professional Boxoing in the Philippines”, “Seminar on Medical Aspect”, “Workshop on Judging to be conducted by Hubert Minn, Chairman of WBC Ring Officials, and Workshop on Refereeing by International Referee Tony Weeks.
A boxing event will also be staged on the second day at the Waterfront Hotel.
Also present from Manila main office were GAB Boxing Division’s Ralph Diokno and Rex Flores, lawyer Ermar Benitez, Jackie Lou Cacho and Admin and Finance Division Chief Ofelia Artugul.
“This convention will once again bring together our friends and stakeholders in the field of professional boxing from all over the Philippines, who we consider our partners in developing and uplifting the interest of the sport of professional boxing in the country,” said Mitra.
The dialogue was attended by this year’s Gabriel Elorde Boxing Awards Promoter of the Year Jim Claude “JC” Manangquil, Dexter Tan and wife Tata of Sanman Promotions from General Santos City, promoter-manager Leonil Lazarito of Leolet Promotions of Valencia City, Bukidnon, promoter-manager Raides “Nonoy” Neri and wife Vanessa of MP Davao Gym, Ma. Krisha Pinol-Solis of KPS Promotions of North Cotabato, Neil Francis Rafael Jimenez and wife Clarissa of RCJ Promotions from Iligan, Renato Moreno and wife Alma of MP Digos Gym, judges Jimmy Mata, Brembot Posadas, Sabas Ponpon Jr. ,Romulo Neri III and international boxing judge Lito delos Reyes.
Also present were the officers-in-charge of the GAB regional offices Arlene Olondrez (Davao), Vic Cabalog (Zamboanga) and Atheno Paguidopon (Cagayan de Oro). They were joined by their fellow GAB employees Fahd Sinsuat, Cecilia Bravo, Kenneth Improso, Delia Antomano, Fatima Bual, Arnulfo Sazon and Sheldon Ramonal.
“We really thanked GAB for choosing Davao City as the venue,” said Manangquil, who will be fielding his boxers in the card on May 12.
The assignment of the referees and judges will still be drawn to give equal chance to everyone that will be attending the convention.
The closing dinner and the awarding of certificates will be on May 13 at the Marco Polo Hotel.
