This Saturday, at the Hydro-Tech Eisarena in Königsbrunn, Germany, the experienced Mexican Katia Gutiérrez will vie and try to become a world champion again, against Tina Rupprecht, the WBC straw-weight champion.

Having made her professional debut in 2007, Katty went through the prime of her career between 2011 and 2013, years in which she was the IBF World Light Flyweight Champion. She had long inactivity between 2016 and 2019, to accumulate four fights since her return, all of them with victory.

Katty (23-7-0) did a great training camp in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, and declared herself ready to face the champion Rupprecht (10-0-1), after the fight was postponed several times due to the pandemic of the Covid-19.

Gutierrez had to make modifications with her team in training camp because the fight was postponed since last year; however, she never lost her motivation and was in the gym every day to pursue her aim of being a world champion again.

“I am ready and eager to get in the ring. That fight had been scheduled since 2020, it was not done at the time, but fortunately, everything is now ready,” said Katty.

“I know I can do it, I know I can be crowned WBC champion. I know what this is, I’m very hungry, the same I had the first time I was crowned champion, at no time did we think about defeat in Spain. We overcame everything and we got the win.

“It is a commitment to my grandfather who passed away. He is responsible for Katty Gutiérrez’s existence, he is responsible for ensuring that she has reached the top. I thank God who allowed me to return to boxing, I was retired for three years, we went to Spain and won the title, today is not going to be the exception, I have my grandfather always present and I am going to do it for him.”
