The “Past and Present” awards ceremony by COMBOX and the WBC was held in theGeneve Hotel, in Mexico City’s Zona Rosa. .
The ceremony was presided by World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaimán, who reiterated that this monthly recognition seeks to remember and praise the history of the great Mexican national champions and Boxing figures who have brought so much glory to our Sport.
The winners were:
Jose Sulaiman award; presented to Juan José Torres Landa for being a dedicated hard working man, dear friend of our beloved Don José Sulaimán and manager of five World champions Vicente Saldivar, Chucho Castillo, Rafael Herrera, Romeo Anaya and the great Salvador Sánchez.
Rafael Herrera, one of the greatest bantamweights in history, a brilliant champion who stood out from the first day he climbed through the ropes. He defeated the best of his division, consolidating himself as a great skilled fighter. A credit to Boxing.
Sergio Lara Mejía, who served as one of the best and most talented boxing journalists. A man who not only covered fights but also told stories of life, through the pen and the microphone, impressing and enthralling us with his own style. He earned great distinction as the Press Chief of the Mexican Olympic Committee.
