MORENO STOPS EX-PBF CHAMP TANALLON

DIGOS CITY – Upcoming sensation Aldren Moreno of Digos City landed solid punches to stop former Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) minimumweight champion Ronnie Tanallon of General Santos City in fourth round last Friday night at the Digos City Stadium.
Moreno, a former standout in amateur boxing, started strong in the first two rounds by bombarding Tanallon with his powerful left-right combinations. In the third canto, Moreno again landed solid punches to cut Tanallon’s ear forcing the fighter from Sanman Boxing Gym to quit during the rest period.
“Delikado nang ipagpatuloy pa ang laban,” said Sanman Chief Finance Officer Dexter “Wangyu” Tan.
The 22-year old Moreno of MP Digos Gym remained unbeaten with three straight wins, two by way of knockout.
Tanallon, on the other hand, suffered his fifth loss against 10 wins and one draw. He also previously lost to Arnold Garde by a split decision in their battle for the vacant WBF Asia Pacific light flyweight title last March 2 in Tupi.
Seven other MP Digos Gym fighters also prevailed including four technical knockouts.
Richard Bulacan survived a first round knock down to stop Michael Javier by a TKO in 2:26 of the 5th round. Javier downed Bulacan in the first round but slowed down in the 3rd and 4th round.
Bulacan landed a body punch to force Javier to sit down to rest. But that was enough already for Javier’s mother, who was also watching at the corner. She threw a bottle of mineral water inside the ring to stop the fight.
Javier’s corner decided not to continue with the fight due to the demand of the mother. The 18-year old Bulacan also remained undefeated with three straight wins all by knockouts.
Another power puncher John Paul Bentoso damaged the right eye of a more experienced Bonjun Loperez en route to a second round TKO in another 8-rounder bout.
Ring physician Edgar Tan stopped the fight due to the already swollen close right eye of Loperez, who dropped to 10W-6L-1D, 5 KOs. The 20-year old Bentoso also remained unbeaten by posting his 3rd straight win via a knockout.
Jerson Bancil stopped Dave Maningkil in the first round due to a deep cut on his left eye while Rey Tagulaylay retired Paolo Perono during the rest period of the 3rd round.
Ramil Anataran survived against a veteran Ian Ligutan by a majority decision while Jestine Tesoro won by a unanimous decision against Yoben Lementillo.
Justin Cabarles scored a majority decision against a never-say–die Frejun dela Cruz.
Sanman’s newcomers JR Francisco and Jason Francisco beat MP Digos Gym’s Reymark Alicaba and Jemar Cabale, respectively in 4-rounders.
The boxing event, which was held in celebration of the 17th Araw ng Digos was presented by Mayor Joseph Penas and also supported by Sen. Manny Pacquiao.
Penas promised to bring back more professional boxing in coordination with promoter Atty. Luciano Cameros.
