Mickey Gall did not have a good weekend.
At UFC 235, Gall faced aging veteran Diego Sanchez. In the lead up, Gall was almost dismissive of Sanchez’s chances. After all, the upstart young welterweight was a heavy betting favorite, and seemingly with good reason. When they stepped in the cage, Gall looked to have an enormous size advantage over “Nightmare,” a man who has competed as low as 145 pounds. In the end, that advantage actually ended up hurting him, as Gall was soundly defeated by Sanchez, gassing out and getting stopped with strikes in the second round.
After the fight, Gall took to Instagram to reveal that the loss was just the culmination of the bad weekend as he had a bad weight cut leading up to the fight, wherein he passed out while trying to get down to the 170 pound limit.
“I gassed hard in there. Had an adrenaline dump. I passed out during the weight cut and my body shut down in the first round. I’m sorry to my friends family and fans. Send love to Diego Sanchez, he’s a true legend. This was a nightmare come true for me. I promise I’ll be back soon and better.”
That wasn’t the end of Gall’s bad weekend though. Despite the respect shown to Sanchez after the fight, the former UFC lightweight title challenger was not that inclined to make friends, largely because he thinks Gall is a dirty fighter. Also taking to Instagram, Sanchez accused Gall of cheating in their bout, saying he was bitten and eye gouged by his opponent and even showing what certainly looks like a bite mark on his chest.
“Mickey Gall is still a little b*tch he bit me and eye gouged me! I’m from the streets of burque [Albuquerque] your lucky that ref pulled me off ! OG’s don’t tell the ref they suck it up and street fight! But I had to let ig know.”
Fortunately for Sanchez, he was awarded a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for his efforts. Meanwhile, the loss dropped Gall to 1-2 in his last three fights and has the formerly hot prospect looking like his UFC career could be in real jeopardy.
