Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor won’t be fighting at UFC 200, but you will be seeing them taking part in International Fight Week, with their UFC 202 press conference slotted in for Thursday, July 7th.
Remember when UFC 200 was supposed to be headlined by Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor? Yeah, that didn’t happen. Supposedly it all boiled down to McGregor not wanting to fulfill his media obligations for the July 9th pay-per-view, leading to the UFC yanking McGregor off the event. The saga continued for several weeks, including McGregor’s ill-conceived “I’m back on UFC 200” tweet, but eventually the fight was rebooked for UFC 202 on August 20th, also at the T-Mobile Arena.
With all of the hoopla surrounding McGregor’s media duties, we will be seeing Diaz and McGregor go at it during International Fight Week, just not on UFC 200. Instead, the UFC announced that these two will have their first of many highly anticipated press conferences on Thursday, July 7th. It’ll be held at the MGM Grand’s David Copperfield Theater at 3 PM ET/12 PM PT, and will precede the UFC Fight Night: Dos Anjos vs. Alvarez card, which streams live on UFC Fight Pass from the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Diaz defeated McGregor by rear-naked choke in the UFC 196 main event on March 5th. That was a welterweight bout, and this one will also be at 170 lbs.
