WBA #2 super bantamweight Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete (25-1, 21 KOs) scored a twelfth round KO over #7 rated José “General” Sanmartin (26-5-1, 17 KOs) in a WBA eliminator on Saturday night at the Arena “José Sulaiman” in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. A body shot finished Sanmartin 46 seconds into the final stanza.
Navarrete suffered a hand injury in round four and entering the championship rounds, his corner told him he was in danger of losing a decision. Navarrette responded and threw everything at Sanmartin, flooring him twice in the twelfth.
In the co-feature, Daniel “Cejitas” Valladares (17-1, 10 KOs) overcame a bad cut to edge previously unbeaten Adrián “Gato” Curiel (10-1, 3 KOs) over ten to keep his WBC silver mini-flyweight title. Scores were 95-94, 95-94 and 98-91.
