World Boxing Council super bantamweight champion of Mexico, Luis “Pantera” Nery (31-0, 24KOs), will fight WBA super bantamweight champion Brandon Figueroa (21-0-1, 16KOs) in a unification.

It’ll be on Saturday, May 15, at the Dignity Health Sports Park, in Carson, California.
The winner of this fight will be in line to face WBO 122-pound champion Stephen Fulton later this year in a unification showdown.

Tijuana trailblazer Luis Nery became a two-division world champion in September when he won a unanimous decision over then-undefeated Aaron Alameda to capture his second WBC crown.

Nery first became champion in 2017, when he went to Japan and defeated Shinsuke Yamanaka, on his home turf, to capture the WBC bantamweight title.

Nery said: “This is one of the biggest fights of my career. I’m going to win this fight in spectacular fashion. I’m training hard every day to make sure I win on May 15th. This is my moment to make history for Mexico.”

Brandon Figueroa, 24, returns to the ring after his most recent fight in which he defeated Damien Vazquez in round 10, last September.

Brandon has trained for this fight that will define his career, alongside his brother and former world champion, Omar Figueroa.

“The training camp here in California with Joel Diaz has been incredible. I am in great physical shape and will be ready to win on May 15. This is truly one of the best training camps of my career.

“I know that Nery is a tough fighter, maybe my toughest test to date. I’m 24 years old now, so it’s time to start fighting these world-class fighters and prove to myself that I belong to the best in the world,” commented Figueroa.

The fight is promoted by the Premier Boxing Champions and will be televised on Showtime.
