At the ripe old age of 38, Filipino Nonito Donaire was crowned world champion again on May 29 by defeating Frenchman Nordine Oubaali, displaying and utilizing the power which has characterized and defined him for many years.

The newly crowned champion of the World Boxing Council wants to continue reaping the benefits by fighting other champions of the division: Naoya Inoue (WBA and IBF) and Johnriel Casimero (WBO).

“From how I worked in the gym and how I performed in the fight, it really was like rewinding time for me. It reminded me of the best version of myself but with more experience. Everything has started to flow and everything fell into place. This was a record and historic fight for me and to recover my fighting form, with intelligence and wisdom. This was a new beginning for me, “Nonito commented.

“My goal right now is to be a unified champion. I need to remain disciplined in all aspects, to train and to be motivated to become everything I want to be. I’ve reached a point where it’s just discipline and focus. This is me controlling how I will be emotionally in the fight and controlling everything physically, but it all depends on total discipline.”
