A few notes from around the boxing world:

• With representatives for junior middleweight titlist Jermall Charlo (24-0, 18 KOs), 26, of Houston, and mandatory challenger Julian “J Rock” Williams (22-0-1, 14 KOs), 26, of Philadelphia, unable to make a deal since the bout was ordered on May 30, the IBF on Friday ordered a purse bid for the fight. The promotional rights will be auctioned off July 19 at the sanctioning body’s offices in Springfield, New Jersey, with the fight likely to take place in September. “My focus is on Jermall Charlo. It’s going to be a great fight,” Williams said. “I think he’s a heck of a fighter. This is legacy defining. This is a real No. 1 contender against a real champion. This is a real mandatory. This is like Bernard Hopkins having to defend against Jermain Taylor. Or Jermain Taylor having to defend against Kelly Pavlik. Or Felix Trinidad having to fight Oba Carr. This is a real fight and I’m excited. I’m excited to test my skills against one of the best young fighters in the game.”
• Top Rank announced it has signed featherweight prospect Jose “El Chocolatito” Gonzalez, 20, of Queens, New York, to a promotional contract. Gonzalez (3-0-1, 1 KO), who uses the same nickname as his cousin, pound-for-pound king and flyweight world champion Roman Gonzalez, was 34-6 as an amateur career. Gonzalez is trained by his father, Martin Gonzalez, who represented Nicaragua in the 1992 Olympics. “I feel very blessed and thankful for my managers and Top Rank for giving me this opportunity to sign with the best promotional company,” Gonzalez said. “This will motivate me to train harder every day and accomplish my goals of becoming a world champion.”

  Said Top Rank vice president Carl Moretti: “Jose is a solid prospect who is always in entertaining fights and has a growing fan base. Along with his manager, Richard Anthony guiding him, his future is extremely bright.”

• Stepping in on short notice, Colombia’s Breidis Prescott (29-7, 21 KOs) will face Levan Ghvamichava (16-2-1, 12 KOs), from the Republic of Georgia, in the 10-round junior middleweight main event of a Premier Boxing Champions card on Tuesday (Fox Sports 1/Fox Deportes, 11 p.m. ET) at the Robinson Rancheria Resort & Casino in Nice, California. Ghvamichava was first supposed to face Felix Diaz, but Diaz was moved to a PBC’s July 16 card on Fox to face Sammy Vasquez. Unbeaten Domonique Dolton took Diaz’s place but suffered a cut while sparring this week, forcing a search for another replacement.

  “I’ve been training hard already and I’m 100 percent ready for war,” said Prescott, who has won two fights in a row and is best known for his massive upset first-round knockout of Amir Khan in 2008. “I don’t know a lot about this guy, but I’ll figure him out in the ring quickly. I like fighting on short notice. I beat Roberto Garcia on short notice so fighting this guy will not be a problem.”
