A few notes from around the boxing world:

• There has been a change of plans for Montreal’s Eleider “Storm” Alvarez (19-0, 10 KOs), the mandatory challenger for light heavyweight champion and Montreal rival Adonis Stevenson (27-1, 22 KOs). Alvarez will face former world champion Chad Dawson (34-4 19 KOs) in a 10-rounder on a Premier Boxing Champions card at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City on July 29 (Spike). Alvarez was initially scheduled to face Argentina’s Maximiliano Gomez (23-5). Dawson, of New Haven, Connecticut, has won two fights in a row but is well past his prime. He was a bigger available name, however, and the deal was finalized on Friday morning, promoter Yvon Michel told ESPN.com. The fight will serve as the co-feature of Stevenson’s title defense against Thomas Williams Jr. (20-1, 14 KOs) as Michel seeks to build interest in a possible Stevenson-Alvarez match later this year.

• An all-Brooklyn welterweight fight between former welterweight and junior welterweight world titleholder Paulie Malignaggi (35-7, 7 KOs) and Gabriel Bracero (24-2, 5 KOs) is in the works for July 30 on the undercard of the Leo Santa Cruz-Carl Frampton featherweight title fight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Malignaggi told ESPN.com the fight is being finalized and that he is looking forward to facing his fellow 35-year-old neighborhood rival. Since a ninth-round knockout loss to Danny Garcia last August, Malignaggi has won two fights in a row, one in Italy and one in England. Bracero is coming off a devastating first-round knockout victory against Danny O’Connor in October.

• Welterweight Felix Diaz (17-1, 8 KOs), a 2008 Olympic gold medalist from the Dominican Republic, will face Levan Ghvamichava (16-2-1, 12 KOs), of the Republic of Georgia, in the 10-round main event of a Premier Boxing Champions card July 12 (Fox Sports 1/Fox Deportes, 11 p.m. ET) at Robinson Rancheria Resort & Casino in Nice, California. Diaz is coming off his first defeat, a highly debatable decision loss to former junior welterweight titlist Lamont Peterson in October. In eight-rounders on the broadcast, super middleweights Malcolm McAllister (7-0, 7 KOs), of Long Beach, California, and Gilberto Pereira (7-2, 4 KOs), of Brazil, square off and Milwaukee’s Thomas Hill (6-0, 1 KO) and Marcos Hernandez (7-0, 2 KOs), of Fresno, California, compete in a junior middleweight fight.

“I’m very excited to get back in the ring on July 12 in this tough matchup,” Diaz said. “This is my first fight back since my close fight with Lamont Peterson but I’m looking forward to shining and getting back on track towards becoming a world champion.”
