A few notes from around the boxing world:

    • Super middleweight Julius Jackson (19-1, 15 KOs), son of former two-division titleholder Julian Jackson, has a new opponent for his fight on July 22 (Showtime, 10 p.m. ET/PT) on “ShoBox: The New Generation” at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Jackson was initially scheduled to face Ronald Ellis, but he pulled out of the fight on Thursday because of an injured right hand. Stepping in to replace Ellis is Jerry Odom (13-2-1, 12 KOs). Odom had been training as he looks to bounce back from a draw with Ellis in February on “ShoBox.”

“I have been training for a few fights that fell through. I’m in shape and ready to go,” Odom said. “When my team got the call we decided it was the right decision to take this opportunity. My power will be a big factor. Jackson has faced punchers before, but he hasn’t faced one like me. This is a great opportunity, and I will put on a show next Friday.”

Also on the card: junior featherweight Adam Lopez (15-0, 7 KOs) faces Roman Ruben Reynoso (18-1-1, 7 KOs) in the 10-round main event and O’Shaquie Foster (10-1, 7 KOs) meets Rolando Chinea (12-1-1, 6 KOs) in an eight-round lightweight contest.

  • Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn announced that Martin J. Ward (14-0-2, 7 KOs) and Andy Townend (16-3, 11 KOs) will square off for the vacant British junior lightweight title on the Gennady Golovkin-Kell Brook undercard on Sept. 10 at the O2 Arena in London. “I can’t wait to finally get in the ring and fight for the British title,” Ward said. “It’s the belt that all British fighters want to win and to fight for it on such a huge bill is great. Andy has been in great form and shown he has got power at the weight, but I believe I’ll have too much for him and it promises to be a great fight.” Hearn previously announced two world title fights for the undercard: Johnriel Casimero’s flyweight title defense against Charlie Edwards and Lee Haskins’ bantamweight title defense against Stuart Hall.
  • Welterweight Fabian Maidana (9-0, 6 KOs), 24, of Argentina, the younger brother of former junior welterweight titlist Marcos Maidana, will face Puerto Rico’s Jorge Maysonet (13-1, 11 KOs), 26, in the eight-round main event of a Premier Boxing Champions card July 23 (NBC Sports Net, 8:30 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT) at the Scottish Rite Auditorium in San Antonio. In the eight-round middleweight co-feature, Argentina’s Alan Castano (10-0, 7 KOs), 23, will face Aaron Garcia (15-5-1, 10 KOs), 22, of Chicago. Junior featherweight Brandon Figueroa, the 19-year-old younger brother of former lightweight titlist Omar Figueroa (8-0, 6 KOs), will also be in action.
