A few notes from around the boxing world:

• A month after the IBF ordered lightweight contenders Richard Commey (24-0, 22 KOs) and Robert Easter Jr. (17-0, 14 KOs) to meet for its vacant world title, the sides have been unable to make a deal. So, on Thursday the sanctioning body ordered a purse bid for July 19 at IBF headquarters in Springfield, New Jersey, to determine who will have promotional rights to the bout and how much money the fighters will earn. Commey, 29, of Ghana, and Easter, 25, of Toledo, Ohio — both of whom have knocked out their past five opponents — will be meeting for the 135-pound belt vacated by Rances Barthelemy, who moved up in weight.
• Alfonso Gomez (25-6-2, 12 KOs), the former star of “The Contender” reality series and a two-time world title challenger, was due to end a 16-month layoff against Mexican countryman Pablo Cesar Cano (29-5-1, 21 KOs) in a 10-round junior middleweight bout that was to headline a Golden Boy’s Estrella TV card on July 15 at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California. However, two weeks after accepting the fight, Gomez suffered an elbow injury during training and withdrew from the fight this week. “He reinjured his elbow. He called me to apologize a million times,” Golden Boy vice president Eric Gomez told ESPN.com. “The doctor won’t allow him to fight.” Gomez said Cano is likely off the card because of the bout being called off and they will look for a new main event or elevate the featherweight co-feature between former world title challenger Jayson Velez (23-2-1, 16 KOs) and Rene Alvarado (23-7, 16 KOs). Gomez is the second opponent to drop out of the bout against Cano, who was initially scheduled to fight KeAndre Gibson, who also got injured.
• Light heavyweight Yunieski Gonzalez (16-2, 12 KOs) will look to end a two-fight losing skid when he returns to action against Brazil’s Jackson Junior (21-6, 19 KOs) on Aug. 6 at the DoubleTree hotel convention center in Miami, according to promoter Star Boxing. Gonzalez (16-2, 12 KOs), a Cuban defector fighting out of Miami, burst on the scene when he fought former world champion Jean Pascal on HBO last July and lost a 10-round decision in an a highly entertaining fight virtually everyone thought Gonzalez won. Then Gonzalez dropped a majority decision to unbeaten contender Vyacheslav Shabranskyy in December.
